The Santa Clara County Bar Association's (SCCBA) Judges Night brought together judges, attorneys, and law students, as well as the families and friends of three individuals who were honored for their dedication and contributions to the legal profession and our community.

Carla Jackson was honored as the Court Professional of the Year. Ms. Jackson spoke about her 32 years of service to the public and the court, crediting her parents with instilling in her a stalwart work ethic that allowed her to excel throughout her career. It was a heartfelt reminder of how the lessons we learn when we are young can guide us to success throughout our lives.

Susan Bishop, a partner at Berliner Cohen LLP, was honored as the Professional Lawyer of the Year. Ms. Bishop reminded us all that success is rarely the result of a single moment, but something built over time through diligence, persistence, and hard work. I appreciated her emphasis on consistently showing up and putting in the effort, rather than waiting for success to come on its own.

The Honorable Socrates Peter Manoukian (Ret.) was honored as the Jurist of the Year, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd. Judge Manoukian was recognized for his 33 years on the bench and his dedication to the legal community. A significant highlight was his support of the Santa Clara County High School Mock Trial Tournament since 1985, covering the time when I participated in that tournament as a high school student in Santa Clara County. Judge Manoukian's work conveyed his love for family, friendships, and community, along with a dedication to the law, for which we all should strive.

This celebration was a great reminder that a meaningful career is shaped not only by what we accomplish, but also by the consistent effort and dedication we are willing to put in each day to create our own success.
